Action kits are here!
Hi SGACers, Our Steering Committee has been working to bring you this year's 2008-09 campaign, and the informational kits are finally here! Be sure to check them out, so you can plug your chapter into our national campaign. SGAC has decided to work on three campaigns this year: Global Fund, National AIDS Strategy, and Patent Pool. The Global Fund campaign will involve some action over the next couple months but will really take off after we know which congressional members to target (post-election) and during the appropriations process which begins in January. Additionally, the National AIDS Strategy campaign is one that we are working with our partners on throughout this semester, so we will be calling on you for support and action, especially on November 20th when we are calling for our chapters to participate in a decentralized day of action targeting the next President and each chapter's respective Congressional members. As our target is the President-elect and key Congressional members for this campaign, it is one that we will work on throughout the school year to ensure that the next President and administration understand that fighting AIDS needs to be a continuous priority. Our Patent Pool campaign is also one that will involve a lot of pressure on Pharmaceutical companies during the spring semester. Since the spring semester is going to be quite full of actions, we are encouraging our chapters to promote education and awareness of the issues this semester. World AIDS Day (or week) would be a perfect time to educate your chapters about all of these issues. That way, your chapter's members can be prepared for a successful year of putting pressure on Congress and the Pharmaceutical Industry to give us what we want - improved prevention methods, more money for AIDS, and cheaper drugs for all people living with HIV/AIDS. So click on the links to the informational/action kits and share all of the information on these issues with your chapters! SGAC wants to have a successful year campaigning, but we are counting on YOU and your chapter to help us take action. Let's work together to make this year one of memorable, successful victories for the fight against AIDS! In Solidarity, SGAC Steering Committee |
